February 22' - Newsletter

Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Recent Overview

In January (2022) Soul Food re-stocked one of it’s sponsored classrooms for a local highschool. Additionally, we have established a partnership with Dallas Chrisitian College (DCC) to begin in February. Every first and third Saturday we will deliver easy-to-prepare meals for the students as the campus cafeteria is not open on the weekends.

2022 Plans

Classroom Food Pantries and Mentorship

As mentioned in our January Newsletter one of our goals this year was to create classroom pantries in the local school district. Currently Soul Food sponsors a classroom in one of the local highschools; we are currently focused on building relationships with at least two additional schools within DISD.

According to CBS DFW, there is a massive shortage in education; “some schools are combining classrooms with double the number of students. Students are seeing more of their teachers (and) coaches driving the school buses. And, office staff workers and administrators are pulling double duty subbing in classes.”

The significant shortage of teachers has presented an opportunity for Soul Food to help. Stoney Washington, Executive Director, is working towards becoming a substitute teacher with the goal of building trust with the faculty while adopting a mentorship mindset to in turn ,build trust with the students as well.

In addition to providing food, we also want to build relationships to help students navigate their educational journey by providing wisdom and advice. While building relationships we want to help mentor these students, whether it’s through FCA programs (Fellowship of Christian Athletes), classroom mentorship, and/or supporting them in afterschool programs.

Prayer Request

We are grateful here at Soul Food because we serve a very gracious and Merciful God. Please be in prayer as we are believing God for a space to be able to store the resources we receive. Our desire is to be planted in the heart of Dallas. Also pray that God would grant us favor in getting into more schools.

We look forward to walking this journey together with you.

May grace and peace be with you,

Soul Food Team
